Membership

Whidbey Island Water System Association (WIWSA) is a non-profit formed in 2004 to provide member water systems in Island County with information, training and a forum for working with county, state and federal agencies concerned with water supply. Today membership is open to any water system purveyor on Whidbey or Camano Island, or those water systems, individuals or companies who have water interests in Island County.

There are two classes of membership, purveyor and associate:

  • A purveyor shall be a member who supplies water to one or more Whidbey Island residences and will have full privileges, including one vote.  A purveyor shall designate their voting member and an alternate to represent them at the Association meetings. Both the voting member and/or alternate shall be a member or employee of that Purveyor’s system.
  • An associate shall consist of a person or entity who has water interests other than as a purveyor. They may be a water manager, water testing lab, water equipment suppliers/manufacturer, well drillers, septic system installers, plumbers, designers, engineers, attorneys, bookkeepers or an individual associated with a government agency. Associate members shall have full privileges including a member vote.

The direct benefits of membership include:

  • Learn about current water system requirements and data
  • Participate in a forum for action on local water issues
  • Keep informed about news, pending actions & events
  • Obtain water systems training
  • Obtain responses to questions and concerns from the community
  • Monthly newsletter and quarterly member meetings

As a member, you are indirectly supporting a community resource with your dues since we provide some level of support to anyone served by a water system in Island County including private well owners. Our members include some of the largest water systems on the island such as the municipal systems in Langley and Coupeville, and many Group A water systems. In addition a third of our membership are small Group B systems with up to 14 connections.

If you or your organization are interested in becoming a member you can APPLY ONLINE or DOWNLOAD AND PRINT the application to fill it out and mail it to us. We will review your application and confirm acceptance by email before submitting it to the board of directors for approval at the next board meeting.
