Help Washington State Department of Health Understand Your PFAS Gardening Needs!

Hello all,

Our team at Washington State Department of Health (DOH) heard from community members around the state that they need better, more actionable advice on the safety of eating home-grown fruits and vegetables from gardens watered with PFAS-contaminated water. While we continue to look for funding to test home-grown produce, we want to hear from you about your information needs and experiences with PFAS and gardening.

Click here to take the PFAS and Gardening Information Needs Survey! The survey is open October 2 through October 31. The survey should take 10-15 minutes to complete

More about the survey

We’re hoping to learn about:

  • What questions you have about gardening with PFAS in your water.
  • What types of information or advice would be most helpful to you related to PFAS and gardening, and the safety of eating home-grown produce.

Results of this survey will be used to help design future home-grown vegetable and fruit testing projects by DOH (pending funding). Because of this, we also ask about:

  • How you have your garden set up.
  • What types of produce you previously, currently, or would like to grow in the future.
  • Who eats, or would eat, produce from your garden.

While we ask what general area you live in, we are not asking for any personally identifiable information (name, address, contact info, etc.) to protect your privacy. Please do not include this information in any of your answers.

If you have questions, please reach out to me, (Claire Nitsche, PFAS Health Educator, Washington State Department of Health) at claire.nitsche@doh.wa.gov, or 360-522-0816.

Thank you for your time!
